The Marples Hotel in Sheffield which was bombed 12 December 1940

BBC Sheffield wants to hear your stories and memories of the Sheffield Blitz 70 years on..

On the 12 December 1940 Sheffield was devastated by the Blitz. Seventy years on the city still remembers the damage and lives that were taken through the bombing.

The first wave of bombs fell on Norton Lees and Gleadless and continued for nine hours, causing widespread damage throughout the city and taking hundreds of lives. It is thought that the original target was Sheffield's Steel industrial area in Attercliffe, but was missed because of the bad weather.

Throughout December BBC Sheffield will be collecting people's memories of one of Sheffield's darkest months. Perhaps a family member witnessed some of the events, you may have photographs of the events that took place in Sheffield, including the Queen's visit. Please do get in touch - south.yorkshire@bbc.co.uk
