Benson crews train in US desert

Alastair Fee reports from California as crews from RAF Benson are training in the American desert ahead of being sent to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defence is spending £42m upgrading the fleet of Merlin helicopters so they can be sent to Helmand in December 2009.

It is hoped the aircraft will allow commanders to reduce the number of land convoys sent out in the region, which are vulnerable to roadside bombs.
