Supermarket vicar mixes church with shelf stacking

The Reverend Peter Mallinson combines two jobs.

The 52-year-old works at a supermarket in Arnold, Nottingham, and has done for the past 16 years. He is also a curate at St Matthews in Darley Abbey and St Edmunds in Allestree, in the diocese of Derby.

He said: "I see myself as a suspension bridge between church as a building, and what people think it is, and church here in the secular world.

"I am able to move between the two and introduce people to other things that people think the church is not when, in actual fact, it is. It is everything."

Jim Harris reports.
