Seven local actors are starring in This is England '86, a new four-part TV drama inspired by the film made by Nottingham film-maker Shane Meadows.

Two of them, Andrew Shim and Ros Hanson, have reprised their roles as Milky and Smell.

Andrew said: "We weren't quite prepared for how big [This is England] ended up being... It's been bonkers."

The first episode of This is England '86 is on Channel 4 on Tuesday, 7 September, 2010 at 2200 BST.

Shane Meadows' This is England was a coming of age story where 13-year-old loner Shaun, played by Thomas Turgoose, is welcomed into a gang of skinheads.

After meeting the volatile Combo [Stephen Graham] the gang split and Shaun's life takes a darker path.

I didn't quite believe it was going to happen until we started rehearsing.

Andrew Shim starred as Milky and the last time the audience saw him was after he had been beaten up by Combo.

Thankfully he returns for This is England '86 - which is set three years later.

The actor, who has starred in four of Shane Meadows' films, including playing the lead in A Room for Romeo Brass, said: "Being good friends with Shane he told me about [This is England '86] before he even started writing it.

"I didn't quite believe it was going to happen until we started rehearsing."

"There were lots of rumours," added Ros, "But I didn't get the thumbs-up until Christmas time [2009]."

This is England '86 is set during the World Cup in Mexico and follows lead character Shaun as he leaves school.

This time, most of the filming for the TV series was done in Sheffield rather than Nottingham.

However, there are plenty of Nottingham links.

Seven of the 10 main characters are from, or used to study at, Nottingham's TV Workshop.

They are: Danielle Watson (Trev), Chanel Cresswell (Kelly), Ros Hanson (Smell), Michael Socha (Harvey), Perry Fitzpatrick (Flip), Vicky McClure (Lol) and Andrew Shim (Milky).

The first episode of This is England '86 is on Channel 4 on Tuesday, 7 September, 2010 at 2200 BST.
