John Holmes' Grantham Canal walk

The Grantham Canal, from the Vale of Belvoir in Lincolnshire to Lady Bay in Nottingham, was once one of the most important waterways in the East Midlands.

From its peak in 1841 things steadily declined and the Grantham officially closed in 1929.

BBC Radio Nottingham presenter John Holmes walks the length of the Grantham canal, taking in some of its history.

You can listen to BBC Radio Nottingham's John Holmes weekdays, from 2.00 to 4.00pm (103.8, 95.5 and 95.1FM, 1584 AM & DAB).
