The Trent's 170-mile epic journey

The Trent starts as a tennis ball sized hole on Biddulph Moor, Staffordshire, and sets off southwards.

By the time it passes through Stoke on Trent it's ten feet wide but it is another 20 miles before it begins to look like a real river.

The Trent finally heads north at Tamworth, travelling through Burton on Trent and into Derbyshire.

It becomes tidal by the time it reaches Collingham, near Newark and then heads north to Gainsborough.

At Alkborough, North Lincolnshire, the River Trent meets the River Ouse and becomes the River Humber.
