The Beat, BBC Radio Nottingham's new music programme, is putting on four hours of live music in the city centre on Saturday, 21 August, 2010.

A line-up of local bands - Tokyo Green, Nina Smith, Frontiers, and Gallery 47 - will be on stage at Nottingham Riviera, Old Market Square, from 6.00pm.

Dean Jackson and The Beat will be also broadcasting live from the beach.

He said: "We've handpicked some of the finest local talent around. It should be a great evening."

Dean added: "I'd encourage all fans of the bands to come down to watch them play.

"In fact anyone with an interest in local music will have a fantastic time."

Find out more about the artists on show below:

Nina Smith

Starting out at the Community Recording Studios in St Anns, Nina Smith fuses soulful acoustic songwriting with a hip-hop edge.

Described as having a voice 'that an make grown men cry', this year she has been down to the world famous Maida Vale studios to record a session with rapper Scorzayzee for BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Frontiers

Nottingham rock band Frontiers list Radiohead, Interpol and The Cure amongst their influences, and say they cannot stop listening to the latest Arcade Fire Record.

They have recently supported We Are Scientists on tour, as well as playing the Camden Crawl and Splendour, and have just finished recording a video for new song Life Full of Life.

Gallery 47

Singer-songwriter Gallery 47 is only 20 years old, but already has picked up support from the likes of BBC 6Music's Tom Robinson and local magazine LeftLion.

Otherwise known as Jack Peachey, he's currently juggling a hectic touring schedule whilst reading English at Nottingham University.

Tokyo Green

Instrumental four-piece Tokyo Green bring together jazz, rock and more soulful elements to create laidback soundscapes perfect for a summer's evening.

Comprised of Nick, Geordie, Ad and Stephen, they have been together for five years but have only started gigging around the East Midlands in the last six months.

Kuato

A three piece rock band who draw their influences from artists as diverse as Fiona Apple and Orbital to Jeff Buckley and Soundgarden.

They formed four years ago and fuse solid guitar sounds with electronic wizardry.
