Listen to Liam Bailey perform It's Not the Same for The Beat's Dean Jackson at the BBC Nottingham studios
Nottingham soul and blues artist Liam Bailey has been signed to the famous Polydor record label.
He told BBC Radio Nottingham's Dean Jackson that he was the subject of a bidding war by rival labels.
Liam said: "Before I knew it, I went from nowhere to live, no money, to four record labels wanting to sign me."
He "ducked out" out of negotiations but after discovering his heroes Jimi Hendrix and Ian Brown were both on Polydor he was "happy enough".
The singer / songwriter is currently working on his debut album which will be released in August, 2010.
Before Liam moved to London he frequently collaborated with Nottingham rapper Peter Piper, also known as First Blood.
"I have a close-knit group of friends in Nottingham. We all keep each other ticking over when it comes to creativity."
Liam is hoping to have a "massive gig in Nottingham" in the near future.
