The BBC National Orchestra of Wales celebrates Bangor University's 125th anniversary with a concert at the Prichard-Jones Hall at 7.30pm on Friday 13 November. Under young Scottish conductor Garry Walker, the orchestra will be performing Haydn's Seventieth and Beethoven's Second symphonies. The concert also includes a new work by Bangor-based composer and winner of the 2007 BBC Radio 3 Listeners' Award, Guto Puw. It has been specially commissioned by Bangor University for its anniversary this year. The remainder of the concert is themed around the French horn, with first horn player Tim Thorpe performing one of Mozart's horn concertos and another by Bangor's former professor of music William Mathias. Garry Walker is permanent guest conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as conducting nationally and internationally. The orchestra perform the same programme, except for the Puw commission, at Llandudno's Venue Cymru on Sunday 15 November at 3pm. To buy tickets for either concert ring 0800 052 1812. Tickets for Llandudno are also available at Venue Cymru, and for Bangor, subject to availability, on the door. The Bangor concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio Wales, introduced by Beverley Humphreys, at 8pm on 15 November.
