Ian Puleston-Davies at the bar of the Rover's Return
|
He's appeared in dramas as diverse as Tess of the D'Urbervilles and BBC Three's blackest of comedies, Funland. Now Flint-born actor Ian Puleston-Davies appears in ITV's long-running soap, Coronation Street. He's been cast as Owen, the father of Izzy Armstrong, the show's first disabled character to be a regular. The character of Owen is a builder who also has some bridges to build with his daughter. He's also rumoured to catch the eye of Liz McDonald at the bar of the Rover's Return! Of his character, Puleston-Davies says: "I quite like the fact he has an edge to him. "He's a proud man and a domineering father. We learn very quickly in the plot that he's an over-protective dad." Born in 1959 in Flint, Puleston-Davies is also a writer and his 2004 BAFTA award-winning ITV drama, Dirty Filthy Love, was based on his experiences of suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder [OCD]. His interest in theatre started when he was at Flint High School. He then joined the Clwyd Youth Theatre before going on to get a place at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His other TV appearances have included a major role alongside Ray Winstone in private eye drama Vincent, as well as roles in Hustle, Daziel and Pascoe and Foyle's War among many others. There's a so-called "cast talk" interview with Ian Puleston-Davies on the
Coronation Street
website.
