Hundreds of organisations are using grant money from Children in Need to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Despite the economic conditions, the 2008 Appeal raised a record breaking £37.8m which has helped more than 700 projects across the UK. In north east Wales more than £250,000 has been awarded to half a dozen projects in grants this year. The groups to benefit are those that help vulnerable children and families. In Wrexham, Home-Start has been awarded £33,532 over three years to help with transport costs to play schemes. In Denbighshire, Rhyl Youth Action Group received £67,284 over two years to help with running costs and Women's Aid Glyndwr has been awarded £31,403 for support for children affected by domestic violence. In Flintshire, a planned new forest school received £5,925. The school will be used by children and young people in areas of deprivation. Save The Family was awarded £76,942 over three years for a project providing a link between the supported accommodation provided at its family homeless centre at Plas Bellin and a move to houses in local communities. Meanwhile, Women's Aid Delyn received £31,746, the local Domestic Abuse Safety Unit has been awarded £6,322 and a Pre-School Playgroup Association referral scheme received £25,500 to provide children with special opportunities to attend their local pre-school playgroup. This year, Friday, 20 November, marks the 30th BBC Children in Need Appeal. For more information on how to be a part of
