Top 10 fame could be beckoning for Connah's Quay band I Am Austin, aka David Mitchell and Adam Hughes.

They've just won themselves one of six places to get expert industry help and perform on a new weekly music show on Channel 4 presented by Radio One DJ Edith Bowman.

While David and Adam are no strangers to the limelight, having previously won a national competition to support chart-topping indie rockers Noisettes on stage, this is their biggest break.

As well as getting one-to-one mentoring from some of music's biggest names, and a fully equipped recording studio to produce up to three singles, they'll also get to perform to a TV audience.

The band were picked from hundreds to win a place in the show. Firstly, a shortlist of 20 was drawn up and then people were invited to vote for their favourite 10 acts.

Then judges reduced the groups to the final six who'll now appear on the new TV programme starting 1 April, with I Am Austin's appearance scheduled for the early morning of 16 April (12.30am).

David and Adam have both been members of other bands before getting together, as David explains: "Adam had always been a bassist, I was dabbling with some drums, we had a few jams, discovered something new and fresh and ran with it."

The boys describe their music as a mix of dance, rock and future blues and reckon they offer something different to the TV audience, but they need the support of locals to get themselves shortlisted.

"There's plenty of ways to get your music out there, thanks to the power of the internet, but there's too much of the same old thing, that's where we step in, we are different," says David.
