Gallops win over new crowds

Gallops
Man, he's going for it!

There's a lot of love for the electronic sounds of Gallops and in May 2009 they played their biggest gig - on the Introducing Stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, writes Nick Bourne.

They've had a great following locally for some time but they attracted a lot of attention in November 2008 at Swn Festival, Cardiff, where BBC Radio 1's Bethan Elfyn became a fan like a lot of the crowd who dropped by not knowing what to expect.

Bethan invited the boys - Mark, Paul, Brad and Dave - to record a live session for her BBC Introducing in Wales show. And then in early 2009 they got the call to play at the Big Weekend.

The band went in to The Machine Room studios in Cardiff to record four tracks, Window FX, Crutches, Defbox and The Manatee, for Bethan's show. The music was also remixed for a special BBC Radio 1 airplay.

The band has also played a live session for Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales who says: "Gallops are impossible to sum up in a soundbite. Their music is too fresh, compulsive and inventive. It's cyborg soul music."
