There are many amateur dramatics and operatic societies in north east Wales

Bitesize Theatre Company

A touring theatre for schools which has facilities in Rhosddu, Wrexham. The company runs a community programme for children aged three-19. The bitesize youth theatre runs classes in ballet, modern dance, tap, drama, circus skills, singing and musical theatre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with classes for children with special needs on Mondays.

Buckley Theatre Club

Buckley Theatre Club (a registered charity) was founded in 1957 and has provided the community with two plays and a pantomime each year since. The club meets at Hawkesbury Little Theatre in Mill Lane, Buckley. You are welcome to attend and can try your hand at a little play reading, or just listen to what's going on, have a natter with other members or committee members. The theatre's technical crew are always present if you would like to see what goes on behind the scenes or find out how the theatre's lighting and sound system works.

Colwyn Bay Operatics Society

The society was founded in 1923 and known initially as the 'Bijou Players'. The group holds one production of a light musical or operetta a year and has its own rehearsal rooms in Colwyn Bay.

Meets: Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30 at the Operatics Centre, Greenfield Road, Colwyn Bay.

Clwyd Community Theatre Association

CCTA is an umbrella group for amateur dramatic groups in the area. They are affiliated to the Drama Association of Wales and can provide help with sound lighting or finding extra cast members for amateur dramatic groups. They also organise the One-Act Festival and other festivals in the area.

Dee & Alyn Gilbert and Sullivan Society

The society produces one operetta a year in May / June with concerts of show and other music in the winter months. They are always pleased to welcome new singing and non-singing members.

Grove Park Theatre

An amateur company based in Wrexham that presents a season of six plays and a pantomime every year. There are lots of ways to get involved in acting, production and front of house.

Hawarden Community Players

They rehearse at the Community Hall in Mancot, usually Thursdays.

Holywell Players

The group produces around six one-act plays a year. They meet once a week with more meetings nearer the time of performances. They are currently hoping to stage a WWI play to coincide with remembrance day in November performing at a few Flintshire venues and to be rehearsed in Holywell and need two more actors. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Meets: Holywell High School, Holywell during term time and Moriah Chapel School Room at other times.

Limelight Productions

The group produces six productions a year for members of all ages. Plus, drama workshop sessions are held for ages three-seven, seven-12, 12-18, as well as adults workshops and rehearsals.

Llangollen & District Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society

During the season, this group meets every Tuesday from 7.30pm until 9.30pm in the Rehearsal Studio, off Castle Street, Llangollen. They stage one major production in April each year, occasional summer shows, and take part in charity concerts and other local events. Members from all backgrounds, musical or not, are welcome. Virtually every aspect of the production, from the set to costumes and publicity, is done 'in-house' so there is something to suit everyone's talents. There is also a junior section for children aged 6 to 16 years.

Llangollen Twenty Club Amateur Players

The group presents two full length plays a year. It also holds play readings and organises theatre trips. New members are always welcome for all aspects of production.

Mikrokosmos Theatre Company

Mikrokosmos is an award-winning community theatre group based in Flintshire but with members from as far afield as Chirk and Wirral. A group of drama practitioners producing primarily epic, large-cast performances normally beyond the reach of the professional theatre. The group is also committed to presenting classic plays and new writing with the intention of extending the boundaries of theatrical experience.

Nannerch Players

The group produce one play each summer and a panto at Christmas. As the production date nears the rehearsals increase to include Sunday late afternoons, usually 4-6pm. There's also a new Youth Section.

Meets: Wednesdays 8-10.30pm in Nannerch Village Hall, Nannerch, Flintshire.

Phoenix Players

An amateur dramatic society that performs English language plays.

Meets: Wednesday (regularly Sept-May, occasionally June-Aug), 7.30pm. Theatr Twm o'r Nant, Denbigh.

Phoenix Theatre Company

An amateur dramatic society which puts on performances at different venues in the area, including one major production each year at Theatr Clwyd. The group is always ready to welcome new members.

Meets: Tuesdays, 7.30pm, St Davids Hall, Mold.

Rhyl and District Amateur Operatic Society

An amateur society that produces Musicals in May and November each year in the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre. New members always welcome, no experience necessary.

TiC - Theatre in the Community

Theatre in the Community offer an exciting programme of drama, movement and music workshops to young people aged four-18 years. All sessions are led by professional resident/guest tutors and explore all aspects of the performing arts, culminating in professionally staged productions throughout the year.

Tip Top Productions

An amateur theatre company based in Wrexham. Performing plays, pantomime and large scale musicals at local theatres in the Wrexham and Chester area.

Wrexham Musical Theatre Society

An amateur society producing both youth and adult plays and musicals throughout the year. Youth drama workshops available Tuesdays and Fridays.
