How your money helps Children in Need

Your donations help thousands of children each year

Organisations across Scotland are using grants from Children in Need to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.

The 31st BBC Children in Need appeal will take place on Friday.

Children in Need raised more than £39m last year, of which £1.6m came from Scotland.

Money raised through donations is distributed to local charities and organisations in Edinburgh, Fife and East Scotland.

Grants in North East Scotland and Northern Isles

Over the past year around £4.9m of BBC Children in Need Appeal money was distributed to organisations in Scotland .

Those grants include:

£29,100 to Grampian Racial Equality Council to improve the self-esteem and confidence of young people affected by racial bullying by providing a counselling and support service. (Aberdeenshire)

£26,728 to Shetland Arts Development Agency to build the self-esteem of young people who were or are in danger of becoming young offenders by giving them the training to make a gift for the person their actions harmed. (Shetland)

£25,660 to Fersands and Fountain Playscheme to improve the social skills of children living in challenging conditions by providing structured play sessions, sports and educational activities. (Aberdeen City)

£14,400 to Home Start Orkney to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people living in difficult circumstances by providing a drop-in service, day trips and other leisure activities. (Orkney)

£10,000 to Shapinsay Development Trust to help reduce the isolation of children from a remote island community, build friendships and ease the transition to high school on Orkney via the provision of an outdoor play area. (Orkney)

£9,738 to Disability Shetland to promote inclusion and enhance the social skills of young people from remote communities with learning difficulties, ADHD or who are on the autistic spectrum by providing social activities. (Shetland)
