Singer songwriter Richard Jay
A local pop musician has been talent scouted by a multi-million record selling songwriter.
Richard Jay, 16, also saw hits on his web page more than quadruple after appearing on the Weekender last October.
Since then Richard has met songwriter Chris Brady - the writer behind hits for Will Young, Westlife and Cheryl Cole - who wants to work with Richard.
The meeting could result in Richard's work being forwarded to a major label.
Richard, 16, made his debut on the Weekender last October for the Spooky Song Spesh. His cover of 'This Is Halloween' from the Tim Burton movie 'Nightmare Before Christmas' received a huge response from Weekender listeners and sent his MySpace hits soaring from 10,000 to 80,000 in just a few days.
Returning to the Weekender studio this month to showcase his newest composition, Richard reported the meeting with Chris Brady.
"It was really strange, it just came out of the blue. Apparently my name had been passed around a few times to him and he just came and contacted me," said Richard.
"He's written for Cheryl Cole, Kylie Minogue
I was really nervous meeting him! We spent some time together getting to know each other and what our music tastes were. We played each other a few things and hopefully we'll be working on a song together."
Richard writes and performs all his own songs, and is heavily influenced by Lady GaGa, for whom he has written a song!
As with all artists featured on the Weekender, Richard is currently unsigned and records all his own music on a laptop at home. The Weekender discovered him after he uploaded his tracks via the BBC Introducing Uploader tool.
If you are an aspiring artist you can upload your music by going to
and selecting the 'Upload your music' tab.
Listen to the Weekender Introducing on BBC Radio Northampton every Friday at 6pm or download the podcast.
