The entrance to the Royal & Derngate theatre
A Northamptonshire theatre has been recognised as the best regional theatre in the country by an industry newspaper.
Northampton Royal & Derngate theatre won the award from The Stage in its Stage 100 Awards.
The judges thought Royal & Derngate stood out for its artistic quality and the connections it has with local audiences.
The theatre's chief executive Martin Sutherland said he was delighted.
"I'd like to thank our audiences and all the people we've worked with over the past year, without whom our success would not have been possible," he added.
The Stage 100 Awards has five categories and recognises performing arts organisations and the teams behind them.
The Royal Court Theatre was named London Theatre of the Year; The Fin borough Theatre, London, won Fringe Theatre of the Year; English Touring Theatre was awarded Producer of the Year and the Sylvia Young Theatre School was named Performing Arts School of the Year.
The Royal & Derngate will be presented with its award at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane later this month.
