Four new deacons have been ordained in a ceremony at Norwich Cathedral.

Dawn Davidson, Robert Hume and Garry and Penny Goodman, who will serve in locations around Norfolk, wore special stoles (white scarves) designed and handmade by Dawn.

The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham James, oversaw proceedings on Saturday, 3 October, 2009.

The role of deacon includes linking Church worship and teaching with the pastoral needs of the community.

Dawn Davidson will serve in Mulbarton with Kenningham, Bracon Ash, Hethel and Flordon.

Dawn spent her childhood overseas and returned to the UK at the age of 17.

Robert Hume, a retired schoolteacher, will serve in Ashmanaugh, Barton Turf, Beeston St Lawrence, Horning, Irstead and Neatishead.

Husband and wife Garry and Penny Goodman will serve together in the Bure Valley Benefice (Buxton and surrounding parishes).

Gary has worked in the chaplaincy team at Rowan House near Norwich, while Penny used to be a midwife.

Garry and Penny were also foster parents for a number of years.
