Rock legend Rick Wakeman provided artistic direction for The Four Churches Festival along the Waveney Valley from 27 - 30 May, 2009.

The third festival saw the medieval churches of Scole, Brockdish, Billingford and Thorpe Abbots host performances by international artists.

"It always gives me immense pleasure to perform in these ancient and unique buildings," said Rick.

Other celebrities who appeared included Nicholas Parsons and Keith Skues.

Nicholas returned to chair a live version of BBC Radio 4's hit show Just A Minute with Charles Garland, Christopher Strauli and Keith Skues, the pirate DJ and BBC Radio Norfolk regional broadcaster.

Prior to the festival, the churches, based in the Diocese of Norwich, felt it was a great opportunity to promote their services to the community.

"The festival embodies the medieval ideal of churches as community centres; places where Christian worship takes place alongside a whole range of other activities that enhance the quality of peoples lives," said Reverend Trevor Riess, priest in charge of the festival.

"We are all really looking forward to welcoming this year's performers as well as the many hundreds of people who will be coming to see them," he added.

Rick was also particularly excited about the 2009 festival, which boasted better views and more legroom at the churches.

"I am really looking forward to working alongside the talented artists booked for this year's event," he said.

"Working with the local churches also enables me to see how a few dedicated people ensure these fabulous buildings are looked after for the benefit of everyone in the community," he added.

Keith Skues was also delighted to be helping, with all profits going to the four churches of the Scole benefice.

"Rick gave me a phone call and wondered whether I would like to take part and of course I said 'Yes'. It's a wonderful cause and hopefully plenty of money will be raised," he said.
