Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited the new £8 million School of Constructuion and Manufacturing Technologies building and Alchemy Centre at Great Yarmouth College on Monday, 15 February 2010.

College principle Robin Parkinson showed Mr Brown around the new building. The Prime Minister chatted to young entrepreneurs who have set up businesses at the Alchemy Centre.

During his whistle-stop tour of the college, Mr Brown also met Great Yarmouth MP Tony Wright along with chair of governors Mike Field. The Prime Minister seemed impressed by the new facilities.

"At the moment the priority is jobs, apprenticeships, training and I've come to the college because of the £8m of new investment that's been put in here," said Mr Brown.

"When I talk to young people here they're interested in how they can set up businesses and create jobs themselves, so Great Yarmouth is well placed," he added.

The college has enjoyed an increase in construction students, which is good news for the UK as economic forecasters expect a skills shortage when the latest generation of workers retire.
