Bring soldiers home, says mother

The mother of a regimental sergeant major, shot dead with four comrades in Afghanistan, has spoken of her pride in his achievements.

Warrant Officer Darren Chant spent more than 20 years in the Army.

His mother Liz, from Great Yarmouth, has said it is now time bring home British troops from Afghanistan.

"I think that those boys should come home now as there are too many being killed. I'm very proud and honoured to have a son like him," she said.

In August, just before he left for Afghanistan, Darren was married at the Guards Chapel.

WO Chant's "devastated" pregnant wife, Nausheen, paid tribute to her 40-year-old husband, who was born in Walthamstow, east London.

"Our unborn son will never meet his father, but he will know him through his legacy," she said.

"For whether in uniform or out, his incomparable courage and selflessness humbled all those who knew and loved him."

His body will return home on Tuesday, 10 November, 2009.
