Ed Sheeran is set to hit the big time with a worldwide record deal

A singer-songwriter, who is on the verge of signing a worldwide record deal after some Hollywood help, is to play a show at Norwich's Waterfront.

Ed Sheeran's gig on Thursday, 5 August 2010, will be his first headline gig in East Anglia since returning from a trip to Los Angeles.

He ended up appearing on film star Jamie Foxx's radio show and hanging out at his Californian mansion.

"I got on with him really well and hung out for a bit," said Ed.

"He's just a really, really nice dude."

His slot on the A-lister's show has led to him cueing up a deal with a major record label, and next month he'll jet to New York for talks.

Ed said: "I got a call one day saying that a girl who was a junior in the record company has heard your stuff [on the show], she sent it up to the head and he'd like to fly you over. It was the best news."

Elton John

The 19-year-old, from Framlingham in Suffolk, has also been snapped up by Elton John's management company and now shares a boss with Lily Allen.

"I went on the Just Jack tour and ended up with Jack's management, who is also Elton John's," said Ed.

"They're just wicked - they're like, 'You do your thing and we'll do our thing and we'll meet in the middle,' rather than telling me what to play, what to wear and what to sing," he added.

He is playing Elton John's prestigious album showcase at the Jazz Cafe in London - two days before he takes to the stage in Norwich.

Jamie Foxx has heaped praise on Ed Sheeran's talents

The acclaimed musician, who marries acoustic guitar and sound loops with beat-boxing and hip-hop rhythms, has played around a hundred gigs in Norwich.

These include a winning performance at the University of East Anglia for the Next Big Thing competition in 2008.

Biggest local show

His show in Norwich, with city-based band The Loyal Few also on the bill, is his biggest local gig to date.

He's also due to play Norfolk in the autumn with fast-rising rapper Example and is also looking ahead to supporting a top name from the grime scene.

"I've got the Example tour in October, which should be great," said Ed.

"There's another tour which I have just got confirmed for in October-November - we're yet to see whether that will happen - but that's the Wiley tour."
