Art rockers Violet Violet are eschewing a loud and sweaty gig for a more sedate affair with seats, champagne and canapes for the release of their album. The city band are hosting a launch party for their second long-player at The Curve studio in The Forum, Norwich, on Friday, 13 November, 2009. The City is Full of Beasts's release marks a turning point for the band, who went from a trio to a duo this summer. The 10-track album was recorded at Leeders Farm, Wymondham. Producer Dave Pye presided over the controls for a record which aims to captures the energetic group's live sound. Singer and guitarist Cheri said she and band mate Fliss were keen to do something unique to celebrate the album's launch. "We're so proud of our new record that we definitely wanted to do something very different," she said. "It's a very intimate venue and it's a way of saying thank you to our family and friends who have stuck by us through lots of changes in the band." Violet Violet - who have won plaudits in the past from Steve Lamacq, Art Rocker magazine and the NME - are bringing out the album on local label NR ONE Records. The launch gig is being staged in The Curve's seated theatre, starting with a champagne and canape reception before comedian Ted Chippington and cutesy-sounding Norwich duo Alloy Ark warm up the crowd. "We've played so many gigs in Norwich so we've got our friend the comedian Ted Chippington and an acoustic set by Alloy Ark, so it's more of an evening with Violet Violet than a traditional gig," said Cheri, who is studying French at the University of East Anglia. In the lead up to taking to the stage, Violet Violet will be shrugging off any pre-gig nerves by chatting to BBC Norfolk Introducing which goes out on Fridays between 7 and 8pm on BBC Radio Norfolk and bbc.co.uk/norfolk Tickets are £10 in advance from
NR ONE Records
and include a copy of the album. The event starts at 8pm and is open to over 14s only.
