Norwich's former live music venue the Queen Charlotte suffers problems as it attempts to reopen as a local pub.

Under its original name The Lord Nelson, new pub owners Sharon Hovell and Wendy Julian have run into electrical difficulties.

To reach health and safety standards, the electrical work on the former venue will cost more than £25,000.

"We are waiting for the brewery [Admiral Taverns] to confirm whether they will do the work," said Ms Hovell.

If approved, the new owners will not be hosting live music at the tavern on Dereham Road, Norwich.

The Queen Charlotte, run by landlord Kevin Grantham from 2006, closed down in April 2009 due to the high cost of soundproofing (for live music) proving too expensive.

The venue suffered from a number of noise complaints from residents in the surrounding area.

The pub was a popular venue for local music talent and had seen up-and-coming acts and touring bands such as Gallows, King Creosote and Norwich's Rebel Lion Sound System perform.
