Sean Seraphim at Patrick Wolf
Norwich's electro-pop pianist Sean Seraphim gained an opportunity of a lifetime as he supported Patrick Wolf at the Norwich Waterfront in May 2009. He was requested in person by the avant-garde singer to support his gig and Sean will never forget the night. "It was a brilliant experience and I was very flattered to be invited by Patrick," he said. "The audience were simply amazing - they seemed to love boys in eye makeup," he added. "I also had the pleasure of supporting Tina Dico in 2008. I am hoping to grab support slots with similar styled acts in the future - Bat For Lashes would be a fantastic group to support right now!" Close to releasing his debut album with the nickname Phantasmagoric for London's Iffy Records, Sean is also looking forward to his slot at Hot City Sounds 2009 in Norwich. "It should be a fantastic event," said Sean. "It will be the last gig I do in the UK before promoting myself in Europe. I begin rehearsing pretty soon. I'll then be back in September 2009 for a full UK tour," he added. Sean is opening the BBC Introducing Stage at Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich, on Saturday, 11 July, 2009, the same day as the city's Lord Mayor's Procession. Playing in-front of potentially hundreds of people doesn't appear to faze Sean. "I want people from all ages and backgrounds to listen and hopefully gain a musical experience," he said. Sean is also rather impressed with the line-up at Hot City Sounds, including many of the best local acts Norfolk has to offer. "I'm sharing a stage with Jess Morgan. We played together for BBC Introducing in 2008, so it would be good to catch up and see what new songs she has," said Sean. Artistic voyage Pressing down on black and white keys in Norfolk and London but travelling all over the world with his music, Sean started his artistic voyage at the age of five. "I often landed the lead vocalist role in school shows. I have been writing and singing ever since on a more personal level," he said.
Sean's on-stage performance is an extension of his personality

Whilst looking to develop his music and being an avid experimental dancer, Sean feels the creative process has flowed naturally for him. "My act evolves constantly around the course of what I believe in, who I aspire to and how I see a vision of myself in the future - whether that be days, months or eras," he said. "My songs literally find me - sometimes they come out of nowhere and sometimes they need some 'honesty bait' to rise to the surface," he added. Spending time in London recording his debut album is allowing Sean's imaginative juices to flow to their fullest. "I love my song Purgatory because it keeps me grounded and another new favourite is called Falling, but they all have their place in my headphones," he said. Whilst maintaining musical friendships with many local and national musicians, keeping a regular touring line-up is something that Sean hopes will also come to him naturally. "I've yet to meet my true band. I see a band as a community and whether they are dancers, musicians or visions in my own persona, I am happy to entertain and give the spotlight to them all. I look forward to who comes next - send me your details now!"
