Rail carriage to be restored as home on Poppy Line

Railway carriage given new role

An old railway carriage which has been a home for decades is being turned into an education centre.

For 90 years the carriage had been part of a cottage in Reepham, but it has now become a feature of the North Norfolk Railway at Holt.

The preserved steam line runs between Holt and Sheringham and the carriage will be restored using 1930s' plans.

After the war, carriages provided cheap housing and the unit will show how people used to live during this era.

A garden and outdoor toilet will be added to give an accurate representation.

The Poppy Line Education Group will use it for educational and historical role play.

The project has been funded by a Heritage Lottery grant.
