Market mushy peas celebrate 60th
The Mushy Pea Stall at Norwich Market
Pitch number 115 on Norwich Market, The Mushy Pea Stall turns 60

The Mushy Pea Stall on Norwich Market is celebrating it's 60th year serving up the perfect pea to the public.

Anita Adcock, from Hellesdon in Norwich, took over the stall from her father-in-law 20 years ago and isn't planning on leaving anytime soon.

"I've got a few years in me still, but I'd like to think that it will stay in the family," said Anita.

"It's been here for 60 years so far, hopefully it will stay for another 60," she added.

Since the stall opened on Norwich Market in May 1949, demand for the mushy green vegetable has gone through different trends, but is now as popular as ever.

"You think old people are the only people who eat them, but with the vegetarian aspects and the fact you need to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day, we get youngsters, babies and children at the stall," said Anita.

But what makes Anita's mushy peas different from anyone else's? For a start, you may be surprised to hear that the stall on Norwich Market, is of only two mushy pea stalls in Norfolk -the other can be found in Great Yarmouth.

"We do have a family recipe for mushy peas, which has been handed down through the generations, but it's a secret - we have to keep it to ourselves!" she said.
