Norwich Puppet Theatre raises 7,200 from celebrity art

Stars' puppets have helped the theatre to raise money

Norwich Puppet Theatre has raised £7,200 for its coffers from an auction of celebrity endorsed puppets to mark its 30th anniversary.

The hammer went down on the puppets - designed by celebrities including Gok Wan and Gary Lineker - at The Forum in Norwich on 30 November 2010.

The money will help fund future productions at the theatre, which is one of only two of its kind in England.

"It's been stupendous," said Jude Orange from Norwich Puppet Theatre.

"We've realised the grand total of £7,200, which none of us would have deemed possible before the evening started," she added.

Monty Python star Terry Gilliam's puppet brought in the most money of the evening, selling for £460.

Norwich Puppet Theatre, which is based in the medieval church of St James on Whitefriars, turns 30 years old on 1 December 2010.
