Tom Jones has been announced as Carrow Road's star turn this summer

Tom Jones will celebrate turning 70 with a show-stopping gig at Norwich City's Carrow Road ground on Saturday, 5 June 2010.

The superstar singer is expected to play to around 20,000 fans two days before his landmark birthday.

It's the third big-name concert that's been staged at the ground, following gigs by Elton John and George Michael.

"We're absolutely delighted that he'll be coming to Carrow Road," said the club's Will Hoy.

The sales and marketing manager added: "We think it's great for the football club, great for the city and the county and we're just absolutely delighted that it's come to fruition."

Delia's delight

Norwich City joint-majority shareholder Delia Smith also welcomed the news and expressed her affinity with the legendary pop star's Welsh roots.

"As my mum and my husband are both Welsh they are especially delighted and we can't wait to welcome him to the green, green grass of Carrow Road," she said.

Jones, who last appeared in Norfolk when he played at Blickling Hall in 2004, will delve into his canon of smash hits which stretches back five decades and includes Delilah, Baby It's Cold Outside and Kiss.

Tickets cost £40 plus booking fee. Call 0844 826 1902.
