The main purpose of the event is to get people walking in the Brecon Beacons National Park
Mountain-Trail-Challenge.com is an annual walking event that takes place in mid September in the Brecon Beacons. Organiser, Mike Rolfe, told us more about the 2010 event. From its inaugural year in 2008 the Mountain-Trail-Challenge.com has gone from strength to strength and now attracts up to 500 participants from all over the UK and beyond. Many walkers return each year to do the full 30 miles or the shorter 20-mile route, with participants entering the event as individuals, as pairs or walking as teams. The Mountain-Trail-Challenge.com has the maxim - Get Out There and Do It! - and the main purpose of the event is to get people walking in the beautiful setting of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Spectacular The challenge takes in the highest summit in the area - Pen-y-Fan (886m) - and includes some spectacular ridgeline walking as well as walking through forestry plantations and alongside some picturesque reservoirs and waterfalls. The routes also take in some of the less trodden areas of the region, giving participants the opportunity to see the national park as perhaps they have not seen it before. Each year the main beneficiary from the proceeds of the event is the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team (CBMRT) with the National Trust and the Scouts also receiving donations. The Mountain-Trail-Challenge.com starts from the newly reopened Garwnant Visitor / Forest Centre at Cwm Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 2HT. Grid Ref. SO 00324 13105.
