As the first of the BBC's big screens, the BBC Manchester screen in Exchange Square led the way in what has become a UK-wide concept in public service broadcasting.

It offers round-the-clock news, information and entertainment on a 25m² digital video display on the side of the Triangle shopping centre, creating a 21st Century digital meeting place.

The screen is connected to the BBC's global broadcast network, and exploits internet technology to deliver a 24 hour schedule, with relays of major broadcast events, news, sport, music, documentaries and much more.

The Manchester screen offers a regular programme of major sporting fixtures including Wimbledon, F1 and World Snooker Championships.

There are also family activities and live events across the year including opera from Covent Garden, sports roadshows and dance and music festivals.

The screen also acts as a free public platform for local and national artistic talent with regular programmes of film and visual artwork on screen.

The Big Screen is a partnership project between the BBC, LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games); Manchester City Council; Philips; and Triangle Shopping Centre.
