Plan for return of 'living dead'
zombie couple

Manchester was taken over by zombies as the dead walked the streets to raise cash for the living.

More than a thousand people took part in the Zombie Aid walk on Sunday 12 July to raise money for charities such as Christies and Children In Need.

However, an attempt to set a new world record for the most zombies in one place fell just a few shambling corpses short.

Organisers say a return of the living dead is being planned for October.

Participating zombies registered at The Printworks in Exchange Square on Sunday evening where professional make-up artists were on hand to help create that authentic cadaverous look.

Parts of the Manchester walk were even filmed to be used in a new zombie film in the United States.

The march wound through the city centre but sadly, the ghoulish gathering was 160 short of the 1,227 zombies required for a world record.

Organisers say they're planning to hold another zombie walk in Manchester in October for a second world record attempt.

The event has raised £2,000 to date for Cancer Research, Christies, Cash for Kids and Children In Need.
