Manchester's Envy helps mastermind a Female Takeover

Tinchy Stryder's anthem Game Over has showed off the UK's best new hip-hop talent - but for Manchester MC Envy, it was missing a certain something.

Disappointed no ladies had made it onto Tinchy's track, she and eight of the UK's finest female acts have made their own remix.

Envy said the idea for 'Female Takeover' came after "tweeting about how there needed to be a female remix."

Adding: "There are so many talented female MCs right now."

Tinchy's original track, which featured Professor Green, Chipmunk, Example, Tinie Tempah and Giggs, has been critically acclaimed across the music industry.

Envy said she is a fan of it too, hence why she and the other lady lyricists had been inspired to make their own version.

In fact, she said that they'd all been so inspired that there was almost more than one lady-centred remix.

It's definitely great to work with other talented artists, as it makes you work a bit harder and make sure you're on your 'A' game

"Me and Lady Leshurr had started planning it then I was contacted by Ruff Diamondz's manager, who said Cherri V was doing one and did I want be involved.

"I was like 'yeah defo!' and a couple of days later, we were all in the studio."

She explained that the track had been made "first and foremost to show and represent the female presence in the scene, and also to bring us all together and represent ladies in the music everywhere, not just the girls who were on the track."

She even joked that it will "arguably show that a lot of female artists out here are better than the guys."

'Popping champagne'

Envy said that despite there being so much talent in the studio when they recorded it, there "wasn't any rivalry" at all.

Instead, she said that working alongside the other women had been inspiring.

"It's definitely great to work with other talented artists, as it makes you work a bit harder and make sure you're on your 'A' game.

"The vibe in the studio was amazing - everyone was having a laugh.

London trio Ruff Diamondz's manager brought the remix together

"We were even popping champagne because [Ruff Diamondz member] Martika had just passed her driving test and we were all buzzing off each other's verses.

"It was a good day."

Quite what the industry will make of the remix remains to be seen, but Envy said that they have had "so much fantastic feedback" already, including some from the originator of the track.

"I heard Tinchy liked my verse, so I was pleased about that.

"Everyone has their favourites on the track and it seems to be quite spread about so it's great.

"That's why I love it so much as well, because we all have our own styles and bring something different to the table."

Game Over: Female Takeover (featuring Envy, Ruff Diamondz, Lady Leshurr, A.Dot, Baby Blue, Cherry V, Roxxxan, Lionness and Mz Bratt) is on YouTube .
