In The City brings hundreds of new bands into Manchester
|
The annual In The City music conference takes place between Wednesday 13 and Friday 15 October. Based around Piccadilly and the Northern Quarter, it brings a host of bands, promoters, managers, journalists, labels and other industry types into Manchester for three days and nights of new music. Many of them will be communicating what is happening as the event goes on. Here are some ways that will let you keep up with what's going on.
ON THE RADIO
From 22:00 BST on Sunday 17 October, BBC Introducing in Manchester will have highlights of the gig
they are hosting with BBC 6 Music at Band On The Wall
on Wednesday night. That means there'll be live tracks from Tim and Sam's Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam, Seerauber Jenny and The Steals, alongside the usual sessions and chats. BBC 6 Music will be bringing
Steve Lamacq
,
Tom Robinson
and
Marc Riley
to the event for their shows. Steve will be presenting his show live from In The City on Thursday 14 at 16:00 BST, including his Roundtable - which will see Guy Garvey, John Robb and Peter Hook in discussion. Marc Riley will be reflecting In The City in his programmes on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 at 19:00 BST, with sessions from ITC bands, No Age and Mazes, in the studio. And both Tom Robinson's shows, on Friday 15 and Sunday 17, will reflect the event, with session tracks and highlights from the Introducing show on the Wednesday night.
ONLINE
BBC Manchester has a strong tradition of covering In The City online and once again, the team will be out and about, catching bands, panels and discussions to bring a taste of the event to the website. This year, BBC Introducing in Manchester producer Chris Long will be joined by four of Manchester's cutting edge music writers -
A New Band A Day's Joe Sparrow
,
The Unsigned Guide's Molly Jones
,
freelance writer Miz DeShannon
and
Quenched Music's Danni Skerritt
- to offer a cross-section of what's going on, who is hot and, of course, who is not. There'll also be photo galleries from the event, with pictures provided by brilliant photographers such as
Shirlaine Forrest
and
Karen McBride
.
