Nancy's debut makes a splash

Singer songwriter Nancy Elizabeth is celebrating the release of her second album, Wrought Iron, with her debut on the small screen.

The lead single from the album, Feet Of Courage, has seen her shoot her first promo video.

The short film features Nancy and a selection of other swimmers enjoying Portishead Open Air Pool in Bristol.

It was shot in the summer by Bafta-winning artist Esther May Campbell and her filming partner John Milton.

Esther's film, September, the soundtrack of which features Nancy Elizabeth's music, won the Short Film award at this year's Bafta celebrations.

Nancy says that she wanted the video "to feature water to fit in with the lyrics" but then "let Esther take it from there" as she'd been looking forward to working with the director for a long time.

"I've wanted to work with her for a long time, but never had the guts to ask.

"I was very nervous to ask her, but she agreed and we started to try and find a suitable pond, river or swimming pool.

"We found the perfect place, an outdoor lido. It was heated too, so I didn't get too cold on the day.

"We filmed the video over the course of two mornings; I like swimming, so it wasn't a bother to swim about a lot.

"I was in the pool for long periods of time, but I interspersed it with drinking cappuccinos wrapped up in a blanket, so it was fine."

Nancy is very happy with the resulting promo, saying that she sees it "more like a moving picture than a video, as the point wasn't to have a narrative, but to film water and the way it moves. I like the colours and the light."

Nancy's Feet Of Courage came out as a single on Monday 21 September and features a remix by Homelife's Paddy Steer, who has accompanied Nancy on stage on many occasions, and a reworking by electronic music pioneer Tim Wright.

Wrought Iron is Nancy's second album, following up her debut, Battle and Victory, which she released in 2007.

Wrought Iron is out on the Leaf Label on Monday 5 October. Feet Of Courage is out now.
