Happy birthday to us!

World famous Abbey Road studios

Six October is the 40th anniversary of the launch of BBC Radio London, the first of many incarnations of BBC London 94.9FM!

To mark the occasion, Tony Blackburn will presented a one hour programme looking back at some of the great names and memories of the BBC's station for London.

The now legendary Mr Blackburn was one of the main presenters on the original BBC Radio London.

In the video above, watch the 2009 orchestral recording of BBC London 94.9's jingle at Abbey Road studios.

BBC Radio London lasted nearly 20 years before being replaced by GLR and, in March 2000, we launched BBC London Live, which evolved into BBC London 94.9 in October 2001.

The station has been home to a host of legendary presenters over the years including: Robbie Vincent, Tony Blackburn, Chris Evans, Chris Morris, Phil Jupitus, Emma Freud, Mark Lamarr, Danny Baker, Vanessa Feltz, Robert Elms, Gary Crowley, Paul Ross and Gaby Roslin.

Here's to the next 40 years!
