For the weekend 25 & 26 July

A relatively quiet weekend for London this one - narry a festival, rally, demo or street party in sight. Which is a shame when the weather is expected to pick up a bit.

Grand Prix

Mind you there a couple of sporting events - firstly the Aviva London Grand Prix is taking place at Crystal Palace on Friday and Saturday. With Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt and our very own Phillips Idowu expected to take part it promises to be a positive athletic feast - tickets are still available I believe, so get down there. And of course, travel implications are that roads around the area will be busy, and the good news is that trains are running to Crystal Palace station.

The Beautiful Game

Meanwhile at Wembley Stadium we have the Wembley Cup.

Taking place on Friday and Sunday, the event sees Spurs, Barca, Celtic and Al Ahly competing for the cup.

Matches are at 5.15pm and 8pm on Friday, and 1.15pm and 4pm on Sunday.

It's important to note if you're attending that the Jubilee line will not be running on Sunday (surprise, surprise!) so you may need to plan your route there in advance.

Roadworks

Roadworks are on again in the City - Fenchurch Street will be closed westbound from 8am on Saturday to 5pm on Sunday, while once again Blomfield Street will be closed both ways at London Wall from 8am Saturday to 4pm Sunday.

It's worth reminding you that the Blackwall Tunnel will be closed on Sunday morning from 1am to 8am for the usual maintenance works.

The Tube

Working on the Underground
Engineering works on the Tube

Onto the tubes and there are the usual works going on - dashed inconvenient to me, the Victoria and Jubilee lines are affected as per.

DISTRICT: all weekend suspended westbound from Barking to Whitechapel and suspended eastbound from Whitechapel to Upney

HAMMERSMITH AND CITY: no service between Whitechapel and Barking all weekend

JUBILEE: not running between Stanmore and Waterloo on Saturday, and no service at all on Sunday

METROPOLITAN: Saturday only, suspended between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate.

VICTORIA: no service all weekend

OVERGROUND: until 6pm on Saturday - buses replace trains between South Tottenham and Barking, then from 6pm and all day Sunday buses replace trains between Gospel Oak and Barking.

Also on Sunday buses replace trains between Gunnersbury and Stratford. On the Willesden branch on Sunday trains will run between Shepherds Bush and Clapham Junction only.

Railways

Onto the bigger trains, and a fair bit of work going on. The fat controller is clearly cracking the whip.

SOUTHERN: from 8pm Saturday and all day Sunday buses replace trains between West Croydon and Sutton. Also on Sunday buses replace trains between Purley and Tattenham Corner

FIRST GREAT WESTERN: until 9.15am on Saturday no trains will run between Paddington and Greenford

SOUTHEASTERN: Trains between Cannon Street and Ashford International via Maidstone East will start from London Bridge. Then on Sunday a reduced service will run between Charing Cross and London Bridge, with some trains from Charing Cross being diverted, and buses replace trains between Lewisham and Grove Park / Sidcup.

SOUTH WEST: On Saturday buses replace trains between Barnes and Kew Bridge, and trains between Waterloo and Weybridge (via Hounslow and Chertsey) will be diverted via Richmond.

On Sunday buses replace trains between Barnes and Hounslow via Chiswick, and trains between Waterloo and Woking (via Hounslow and Chertsey) will be diverted via Richmond.

C2C: on Sunday buses replace trains between Barking and Grays via Rainham

FIRST CAPITAL CONNECT: On Sunday buses replace trains between Streatham and Wimbledon via Tooting.

And that's yer lot. I'm off to train for the three-legged race for the aforementioned London Grand Prix, with Billy Reeves.
