2012 Open Weekend art vandalised

An East-London artist had her preparations for her 2012 Open weekend art exhibition vandalised twice in 48 hours in the week before the event.

Clare Newton was showing her artwork on Royal Victoria Square, at ExCel - an Olympic venue - before her Viva City Festival.

In her latest '2012 Lives' video diary, she said: "I arrived and two out of the three structures were completely annihilated.

"You have to be really strong inside to over come it. I didn't know whether to cry to or sit still. I just completely stopped."

"The knock on effect was that five out of six schools and 3 out-reach programmes for disadvantages children were let down."

Clare is one of BBC London's contributors to the "2012 Lives" project, who will tell their own stories concerning the 2012 Games coming to East London.
