From arts and exhibitions to gigs and going out, get some suggestions of things to do in Merseyside and Cheshire over the next few weeks.

on the waterfront
Artists started creating the 'Dove of Peace' sand sculpture on Friday

The second On the Waterfront takes place this weekend from, 16 - 18 July.

BBC Radio Merseyside will be broadcasting across the weekend, joined by their official charity partner for 2010, Clatterbridge Your Cancer Centre. Look out for the BBC Radio Merseyside gazebo at Salthouse Dock.

Expect a weekend of quirky live street theatre, visual spectaculars, Picasso-inspired performance and Pirate palavers.

There will also be a 'Dove of Peace' sand sculpture by art group Sand in Your Eye and the Phoenix and Earl of Pembroke Tall Ships arrive on Friday.

The Liverpool Chester Bike Ride takes place on 18 July. Now in its 17th year there is a choice of four distances through the Wirral and Cheshire countryside.

Options include a 85 mile sportive through to Delamere Forest, a 54 mile round trip to Chester and back, a 25 mile ride to Chester and a 20 mile Wirral Circular.

All the routes start in Liverpool and have exclusive use of the Queensway Tunnel.

Rod Stewart, Crosby Stills and Nash and Status Quo are amongst the big names performing at the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival.

The month long live music event, which also includes the annual Beatles Day concert, takes place at the Liverpool Echo Arena throughout July.
