Cyclists in Liverpool
The cycle trail will visit various places of worship around Sefton park

National Interfaith Week kicks off in Liverpool with the Cycle of Faiths event.

Join the cycle trail around Sefton Park which will visit the various places of worship around the park and learn about the different religions celebrated in the city.

A bike doctor will also be on hand to get old bikes going again and even if you don't have a bike you can go along and try out different types of bikes, from tandems to fold ups, throughout the day.

The event is organised by Faiths4Change, Liverpool Community Spirit, Liverpool Faith Network and Merseyside Council of Faiths and faith communities are encouraged to their bikes with religious symbols.

Alexei Sayle
Alexei Sayle's TV career spans over 20 years

Writer, comedian and actor, Alexei Sayle will be reading selected passages from his two collections of short stories and three novels.

Born and raised in Anfield, he will be telling anecdotes from his extraordinary life and answering questions from the audience about anything from show business to Marxism to stubborn stain removal.

Alexei Sayle, appears at Crosby Civic Hall, Sefton on Saturday 14 November 2009, 2000GMT.

Boat museum
The museum is located beside the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal

Spam Fritters are on the menu this weekend at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesemere Port, Cheshire.

The Boat Museum is stepping back in time with 1940s themed local history event.

Get advice on expert advice on researching your family tree and swap ideas and stories with other family historians. There will be a selection of speakers and exhibitions and entertainment will be provided by "Air Raid Archie" and a DJ playing music from the era.

Visitors can also take a boat trip through an industrial landscape, visit the museum blacksmith and explore traditional narrow boats and homes through the ages, complete with cottage gardens.

Apichatpong exhibition
For the exhibition Apichatpong lived in the sleepy Thai village of Nabua

Homotopia celebrations continue this weekend at Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) in Wood Street with the centres first Gay Sunday on Sunday 15 November at 1400GMT.

The special event is designed for a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender audience and features an afternoon tour of award-winning gay artist and film maker Apichatpong Weerasethakul's new multi-screen video installation Primitive.

Apichatpong's unconventional films explore sexuality, power and alienation, which has led to censorship in his native Thailand.

Birkenhead Park
Birkenhead Park is believed to be the world's first public park

Join the rangers at Birkenhead Park on a guided walk looking at the famous people who made and used the park, past and present.

Famous visitors include the architect Sir Joseph Paxton, footballer Dixie Dean and Everest climbers Irving and Mallory.

Birkenhead Park was designed in 1847 and is believed to be the world's first public park.

The Grade I-listed 226-acre urban park provided the prototype for Central Park in New York.

The walk takes place from Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre on Sunday 15 November 2009 at 1300GMT.
