Redwings visit Britain from Scandanavia during winter
|
Now is the perfect time to be on the look out for the redwing, the classic autumn migratory bird. The redwing arrives in Britain each year from Scandanavia and is a regular winter visitor to Mill Wood nature reserve near Speke, Liverpool. It is also the bird that you are most likely to see in your garden and is a real sign that winter is here. Have you spotted one? BBC Autumnwatch needs your help to log sightings of the redwing bird. Mill Wood is rich in plant and animal life and other regular bird sightings include the great spotted woodpecker, blackcap, buzzard and sparrowhawk and the redwing. The nature reserve is one of only a few ancient woodlands in Merseyside which means it is thought to be part of the original wildwood which spread across Britain after the last ice age almost 12,000 years ago. To help track the arrival of the redwing as autumn progresses add your sightings to the BBC Autumnwatch map. Tell us when and where you've seen a redwing this autumn and log it on the
BBC Autumnwatch interactive map.
