Life in the Hope Street Quarter from the 1920s to the 1970s is the focus of a new digital photography exhibition at Liverpool Cathedral. 'Hardman's Hope' features images taken by renowned Liverpool photographer Edward Chambre Hardman in the area around the cities cathedrals. Narrated by Liverpool photographer Mike McCartney the display encourages visitors to follow a photo trial to capture their versions of his pictures.
The exhibition is open until 20 August. Hardman lived and worked at 59 Rodney Street in the shadow of Liverpool Cathedral, much of his work was in portrait photography but he also took a great many pictures of landscapes and city scenes in Liverpool at a time when the city was changing from a bustling port to a city in decline. The exhibition includes a 'hands on' feature of vintage cameras which were used by Hardman. Hardman's Rodney Street home, acquired by the National Trust in 2002, is the only fully preserved photographic studio of the 20th century.
