Michael Jackson performed at the Liverpool Empire with the Jackson Five
|
A previously unseen interview with Michael Jackson is being screened as part of Liverpool's Black History Month celebrations. The interview, by a local black youth, was filmed when the Jackson Five performed in Liverpool in 1972. The film is part of the AFRO BIA exhibition at the Contemporary Urban Centre (C.U.C) in Liverpool. The display also includes photographs of young black people in the 1970s and 1980s. The exhibition is part of Black History Month which runs in October. For more information on the exhibitions at the C.U.C. visit
Contemporary Urban Centre
website. The national celebration, which is held every year, looks at the history and experience of black people in the UK. Other events across Liverpool include a series of music, dance, food and craft workshops. The International Slavery Museum is running a series of exhibitions including Trafficked, which looks at the modern day slave trade; and Black Britannia which features photographs of black role models by photographer John Ferguson. Other events include Strictly Come Dancing with Jiving Lindy Hoppers, an African arts and craft workshop and African beats, a fun filled afternoon of African Drumming. A number of talks are also taking place including Great African men which looks at black heritage, politics and culture and Tales of Africa which invites young visitors to take part in an interactive storytelling session.
