Brothers Jez Williams (guitar, vocals) and Andy Williams (drums, vocals), and Jimi Goodwin (bass, vocals, guitar) first met at Wilmslow High School.
The current line-up originally formed as Sub Sub in 1989 releasing their first single Space Face in 1991, and then in 1993 they released Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use), which reached number three in the UK charts.
In 1996 the group's studio caught fire and burned down. This was to be a defining moment for them as they abandoned their previous Hacienda influenced style and reformed as alternative rockers Doves in 1998.
The band released their fourth album in April 2009 titled Kingdom of Rust.
Highlights for the band in 2009 included appearing with the London Bulgarian Choir as part of the Electric Proms series.
Their album Kingdom of Heaven was released on CD and as a special edition double heavyweight 12" vinyl.
