George Gandy gets lifetime award at a BBC Sport event

George Gandy, an athletics coach from Loughborough University, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The result was revealed at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards 2009 which were held at Loughborough University on Thursday 3 December 2009.

In the last 40 years George has nurtured and coached some of the best known sportspeople including Sebastian Coe, Paula Radcliffe, Dave Moorcroft and more recently Lisa Dobriskey.

George has coached 75 athletes to international honours.

He left his role at the University after 33 years this summer to take up a position with UK Athletics.
