The BBC want your suggestions for sportsmen and women who deserve recognition for their achievements in 2009. There are 11 categories in which we need your help including Sports Personality, Coach of the Year and Team of the Year.
The deadline for suggestions for the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards is 2300 on Friday 23 October. The sports teams and individuals must be based in or resident within the BBC East Midlands area. All candidates must have achieved a high standard of performance at local, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 30 October 2009. Sports Personality of the Year/Disabled Sports Personality of the Year Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams and e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Candidate must have achieved a high standard of performance at local, regional, national or international level during 2009. They may also have used their personality to have contributed to the community. Coach of the Year Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams and e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Candidate must display achievement during 2009 demonstrating success in enhancing the motivation and performance of the team/individual they have coached. Generally this will be at elite level. Team of the Year Eligibility: Based in the East Midlands area
any age group, professional or amateur. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams along with e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Team must have achieved a high standard of performance at local, regional, national or international level in 2009. Junior Sportsperson of the Year/Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. They must be under 18 on 1 October 2009. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams along with e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Candidate must have achieved a high standard of performance at local, regional, national or international level during 2009. Football Achievement of the Year Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams along with e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Brian Clough Award Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: A judging panel will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams along with e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. Candidate must have made a significant breakthrough during 2009 and show potential to achieve a high standard of performance at national or international level. It's recognition of someone who hopefully will go on to make an impact on their sport. Candidate must have achieved a high standard of performance during 2009. Enterprise in Sport Award Eligibility: A company or individual based or working in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: A judging panel or will determine a short list of three and a winner by considering nominations put forward by BBC East Midlands Sports Teams along with e-mails/letters from the public and sports organisations. This award is for businesses and organisations that have made a significant contribution to the sports world. This may be through innovation or marketing or some other facet of business. Lifetime Achievement Award Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the area covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: By panel consisting of BBC staff and three independent judges. Candidate must have contributed significantly to sport in the region and be a role model for others. Judges Special Award Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the are covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. For the junior category, under 18 on 1 October 2009. Nomination: By BBC sports staff and the independent judging panel. Candidate must have achieved made a significant achievement to sport which has not gone rewarded in the other categories. Unsung Hero of the Year Eligibility: Based, born or resident in the are covered by BBC East Midlands Today and the East Midlands cluster of BBC Local Radio stations. Nomination: By any member of the public via the authorised voting form, found on the BBC Website and available on BBC receptions. A BBC panel along with at least two independent judges will determine a short list of three and a winner. Candidate must be a volunteer and given their time and energy for others to play sport. They must have shown an extraordinary commitment to a club or sport. They should have demonstrated a willingness to dedicate a significant amount of time to encourage sport in their area whilst asking for no financial reward. A role model for volunteers.
