Monica Winfield

Weekend Breakfast Presenter Monica is our local theatre expert!

She is always ready to bring you news of productions at Leicestershire's theatres - both professional and the amateur productions that take place throughout the city and county, Monica will keep you in touch with what's on!

She's performed with many local companies - from plays to musicals in venues as diverse as De Montfort Hall and Glen Parva Young Offenders' Centre!

Nowadays, Monica's a Front of House volunteer at the Little Theatre in Leicester and enjoys selling programmes and ice-creams to people who often wonder where they've heard her voice before!

She joined the BBC joined BBC Radio Leicester as a Private Secretary and has also worked for the BBC in London.

Upon her return to Leicester, she developed her broadcasting career by running the Helpline service and started taking the radio car out to visit summer fetes and fairs.

Monica has relished the variety of opportunities have come through working for the BBC. 2003 saw her Silver Jubilee year and Monica proud to say that she's worked on very nearly every programme and in practically every department at BBC Radio Leicester.

Along with Martin Ballard, she took part in the first ever BBC Local Radio broadcast from Euro-Disney in Paris, she's did the traditional bottle breaking naming the RNLI's "Pride of Leicester" in Staithes and she's always game for a charity stunt.

So far she's done a parachute jump, abseiled down several of Leicester's tallest buildings and firewalked across hot coals - all future challenges will be considered!
