Karl Cooper

How did you come to be working for BBC Leicester?

I came back to BBC Leicester after 21 years in a foreign land … Nottingham. But I started at Leicester making tea and answering phones for Saturday afternoon sport in the mid 80's.

Who's been your best guest and why?

Engelbert Humperdinck because he is a star who loves Leicester and I love playing his music on air.

What's been your worst on-air moment?

Getting a wrong number when I made a live surprise phone call for someone's birthday.

The mistaken recipient was totally underwhelmed by a radio station calling them at 06:30 in the morning.

What's your career highlight so far?

Meeting Engelbert Humperdinck.

Your favourite place in Leicestershire and Rutland and why?

Swithland Woods where I used to play hide and seek with the family on a summer Sunday afternoon.

Favourite television show?

Dr Who

Favourite food?

Eggs and chips

What do you do to help you relax?

Stroke my cats… my boys love it.
