The Leicestershire Round provides walkers with the opportunity to take in the county's beautiful countryside

Did you know that Leicestershire has its very own long-distance footpath?

It is an 100 mile long circular walk called The Leicestershire Round. It starts and finishes at Newtown Linford, the gateway to Bradgate Park.

BBC Leicester's Chris Baxter has been walking "The Round", on and off, since May 2009 in 10 stages.

You can follow his movements, across countryside and over hills taking in a few pints on the way, by listening to the audio below.

Leicestershire Round: Part One

Chris started his route in Bradgate Park.

He travelled through villages including Woodhouse Eaves, past Swithland Reservoir and finished on the hill above Mountsorrel, the site of an old castle.

Chris met fellow walkers and grabbed a sausage roll en route.

Leicestershire Round: Part Two

Chris walked through the Soar and Wreake Valleys, crossed the busy A46 near Ratcliffe College, then on through peaceful villages like Rearsby and Hoby, where he bought a well-earned pint.

Leicestershire Round: Part Three

Leicestershire doesn't have mountains, but on this stage it was the nearest Chris got.

He met model plane pilots on a windy Burrough Hill near Melton and arrived in beautiful Somerby for a pint of real ale.

Leicestershire Round: Part Four

Chris crossed the border into Rutland and passed Launde Abbey.

However, Chris took a wrong turn before getting back on course for the village recently named as one of the top must see villages in Britain; Hallaton.

Leicestershire Round: Part Five

Chris climbed the Caudle near the Langton villages.

He then followed the Grand Union canal to Foxton, home of the famous ladder of locks and the "inclined plane."

Leicestershire: Part Six

On this stage there were beautiful rolling countryside and picturesque villages.

This time Chris had company too. His son William joined him in a baby rucksack and provided a little bit of commentary too.

Leicestershire Round: Part Seven

This could be a short episode... Chris runs low on battery power for his microphone. But will he run out?

Leicestershire Round: Part Eight

In this episode Chris walks through history.

He stood at the point where two famous roman roads intersect; The Fosse Way and Watling Street.

Leicestershire Round: Part Nine

During stage nine the battle lines were drawn.

Chris followed in the footsteps of Richard III when he visited the village of Sutton Cheney.

Leicestershire Round: Part 10

The final approach.

A preserved railway line, and thunder and lightening provide the drum-roll to Chris' arrival back at Bradgate Park.
