Introducing... Joel Owen

Joel Owen is a 21-year-old singer songwriter from Enderby in Leicestershire.

Having been involved with music from a young age, Joel began writing and performing in 2005.

His signature soulful sound mixed with acoustic folk-blues draws in crowds across the Midlands.

Joel established his name as a singer-songwriter across the acoustic circuit in Leicester.

He has performed at three of the biggest festival in the Midlands; 'The Big Session', ' City Acoustic and Blues', and last summer he opened the Summer Sundae festival where his performance was accompanied by percussion and saxophone.

He is currently making his mark in London where he studies Philosophy at London Metropolitan University. He believes that studying philosophy helps with his thoughts and emotions which go into his song writing.

"Most of the songs I write are about life or what I think about certain things, so I suppose it plays a big part even if I don't realise it directly."

He has released his new record through a local independent label 'Musician Records' where he released his first album in 2006.

Joel says that his new album, features a lot of input from other Leicester musicians and artists.

"I've drawn in everyone; friends and bands that I've played with over the years.

"It's been really good fun to make my song as just an acoustic song and hear all these other views on it and build it up layer by layer."

The album has a live feel with a distinctive 'beaten up' old piano sound. Joel believes that this is what he wanted to capture as nothing was over-thought when producing the record.

"I wanted it to sound like when you listen to it and close your eyes you could be there and we could be sitting there next to you playing it."
